Hand carved wooden spoons.

The SpoonDaddy Story

SpoonDaddy

It all began in 2015 while hanging out in a park in Salt Lake City, Utah, waiting to get a random tattoo with a good friend. He pulled out a pocket knife and a rough spoon he was working on, and as an ex-professional childhood stick sharpener, my interest piqued and I was hooked.

I carved as a hobbyist for a few years until following my now-wife to Sweden in 2019, and as a result of attempting to find purpose during long winters and difficulties finding work during the pandemic, SpoonDaddy Spoons was born!

During our time in Sweden, SpoonDaddy Spoons sold carvings and taught carving courses. In 2023, I partnered with the founder and owner of Kalthoff Axes, Julia Kalthoff, and together we created and facilitated the Täljklubben (Carving Club) in Stockholm, Sweden.

Fast forward to November 2024, my partner and I moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and SpoonDaddy Spoons adopted a few new letters to its name; LLC.

Now, the focus lies within building community tied to a craft that can be traced back thousands of years. Wood carving is instinctual and human, and the possibilities of what we can create while using basic hand tools are limitless.

The wood carving community is vast and strong. It is my intention to help make wood craft more accessible and to create a community united through carving wood in the desert southwest. So, if you are a seasoned carver, or someone with aspirations to learn, please get in touch and let’s create something cool and special!
